šĀ No Tricks, Just Treats for Your Well-Being and Skin
Hello!
October brings cooler temperatures, changing routines, and the beginning of a busy holiday season. This month, letās focus on simple ways to care for ourselves, inside and out.
šĀ Small October Treats for Your Well-Being
āĀ Sip something warm. Enjoy a calming cup of herbal tea and allow yourself a few quiet moments.
š§š½āāļøĀ Stretch away the day. Gentle evening movement can help release tension held in the body.
š„£Ā Nourish your skin.Ā Apply a hydrating facial mask and give your skin a little extra care as the air becomes cooler and drier.
š¶š½āāļøĀ Take an autumn walk. Ā Fresh air, movement, and colorful fall surroundings can provide a welcome mental reset.
šĀ Give yourself an earlier bedtime. Ā Rest supports the body, mind, immune system, and the skin.
š»Ā Is Stress Playing Tricks on Your Skin?
When we experience ongoing stress, the body produces higher levels of stress hormones, including cortisol. While cortisol is part of the bodyās normal stress response, consistently elevated levels may interfere with the skinās ability to protect and repair itself.
Think of your skin barrier as a protective wall. Skin cells are the ābricks,ā while natural fats and proteins act as the āmortarā holding everything together. Prolonged stress can weaken that mortar, allowing more moisture to escape through the skin. This is known as transepidermal water loss, and it can leave the skin feeling dry, tight, sensitive, or irritated.
Stress may also make the skinās immune response less balanced and interfere with some of its natural antimicrobial defenses. When the skin barrier, immune system, and microbiome are no longer working together as effectively, we may notice:
š„Ā Increased inflammation or irritation
š§Ā Dryness and dehydration
šøĀ Greater skin sensitivity
š£Ā Acne or flare-ups of existing skin conditions
ā³Ā Earlier appearance of visible skin aging
## āØĀ Treat Your Skin Kindly This Fall
š¦Ā Replace a lightweight summer lotion with a richer moisturizer containing barrier-supporting ingredients such as ceramides.
šæĀ Choose lukewarm water instead of very hot water, which can strip the skin of its protective oils.
š«§Ā Avoid over-cleansing and harsh exfoliation when your skin feels dry, tight, or irritated.
š§“Ā Continue using broad-spectrum sunscreenāeven on cool or cloudy autumn days.
šĀ Remember that rest, movement, nourishment, and stress management are also forms of skincare.
