Taking a Healthy Bite of New York City (part 2)

I certainly would not consider myself a food critic. However, I know something good when it crosses my palate. Sushi Samba, Gourmet Salad & Deli, and The Great American Health Bar were places that crossed my palate in a very appealing way.

Sushi Samba has amazing seafood dishes. I had and loved the sampling plate. Fantastic! However, it is not the food I want to address in this article. It is the amazing virgin drinks they serve. After exploring their menu online I was compelled to try the cucumber refreser and the watermelon mojo. The cucumber refresher is a perfect warm weather thirst quenceher. It is made of cucumber, agave nectar, and water. Cucumber is a natural dieuretic and agave nectar has a low glycemic index. Nice choices to rid the body from excess fluid and keep the blood sugar stable avoiding peaks that predispose us to diabetes. The watermelon mojo was equally delicious with more fruit flavor. This drink would be a good choice for a date night. The watermelon mojo consists of watermelon, lime, and guava. Watermelon is a nutrient rich fruit that consists of 92% water. Lime is high in vitamin C an antioxidatnt that prevents the flu and stimulates collagen production. Guava is a fruit high in dietary fiber and antioxidant lycopene. It was a breath of fresh air to find such a wide selection of healthy virgin drinks on a menu! It is good idea to limit alcohol consumption when travelling. Airplanes and new climates can be very dehydrating to the body. Alcohol consumption causes further dehydration resulting in fatigue, sallow skin, headaches, and constipation.

Besides Sushi Samba I also loved two delis I experienced. The first was Smiler's Gourmet Salad & Deli located at 532 Madison Avenue. I highly recommend the vegetable soup. The best I ever had! The second deli was The Great American Health Bar at 35 West 57th Street. I adored my tuna melt on one of the best multigrain breads I ever had!

I am blessed to have had such wonderful culinary experience while visiting New York. If you decide to try them I sincerely hope you enjoy them as much as I did!

Best of Everything!
